The Virtual World

Isn’t it time when humans can enter the virtual world and do things that can only happen in fantasy movies or games. How long will it be before this kind of technology will be introduced? If such a machine is created, it will replace all modern games and people will have no more reason to travel. This technology will shake the world as our mind can enter the virtual world. A world of no bounds, a world full of adventure.

People will actually be living the true second life. No longer would human be restrained in their restricted environment or life. Disabled people who enters the virtual world will no longer be confined from their disability. Humans will be able to do anything and live the life they always wanted.

Virtual World

This technology will create new jobs inside the virtual world. Being able to convert virtual currency and items to real currency will attract all sorts of people and jobs. It is a new level of sensation and excitement as people can work during the day in the office and have epic adventures at night with this technology.

Also cities will be less congested as more and more people dive into the virtual world. Everyone would be at their home living it up in the virtual world. Being able to choose what you want to be and explore the virtual world will open up all kinds of possibilities. Whoever invest in this kind of technology will be very rich one day as every consumers will want one. Does anyone know who is trying to produce this kind of machine =)?

The iPhone and new iPods sure look a lot like the touch screen computers of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Can Holodecks really be that far behind?

I remember reading that one of the challenges they had during Star Trek: TNG was keeping up with modern technology! This was supposed to be about 200 years in the future, and the technology of the day was catching up with what the technology on the show was doing.

We still don’t have phasers, warp drives, transporters, shields or Holodecks–but which of these technologies do you think will be the easiest to implement? I’d say Holodecks (okay, you need transporter technology to have a true Holodeck, but you could manage with something less solid for a while!)

I’m sure there are already a number of companies trying to develop holodecks. And, if previous technologies are any indication, the first industry to utilize them will be porn.

    Anything but porn!

LOL! Sad, but true. The “adult entertainment” industry is usually among the first to adopt new technologies. I think early moving pictures were pornographic! They were a series of still images, placed in something like a nickelodeon, where you paid (probably a nickel), and turned a crank by hand to make the pictures move. This was on Wild West Tech a few months ago.

Another blogger not too long ago (so I should remember–was it you?) detailed the recent innovations that were driven by the adult industry. VHS vs. Beta was one. Beta was considered superior, but the adult industry went with VHS, and some credit that with driving sales of VHS machines, pushing Beta to the side. Then came downloadable porn. So, as uncomfortable as it may be, adult entertainment may drive holographic technologies too.

Guess you have to take the good with the bad. Most people don’t like war, but war has driven a lot of technical innovations, from medicine (doctors get experience in a vast number of injuries that they might not otherwise have in a lifetime) to other technologies. War certainly pushed aerospace technologies forward.

I think people are already doing that in 2nd life. People actually have stores and sell real estate too.

dcr- You are very right, war itself is the reason why technology is advancing so rapidly. You can check out Theory on war if you have the time. Porn sells, and I mean a lot so porn industry would use any technology they can grab their hands on to make a few more bucks!

cash - Yea, 2nd life can already convert virtual items and currency into real money. Entering the virtual world through our mind takes it up a notch. If our virtual experience is as real as reality through our mind from this new machine; you would have to determine if you want virtual or real items!

my twisted mind believes that this technology already exists.

Soon in shall be released upon us..probably we are already living a fantasy ^_^

The problem with the kind of world would just only be computer power, I think if we could come up with much much better processors we’ve got great programmers and designers to rely on that can make this dream a reality.

Has anyone watched Zegapain, the anime!? Dan, the computer processor in that anime is able to create a virtual world and maybe it is the one we need to make it happen. This anime is really good and dramatic; you guys should watch it.

I don’t watch much anime. Okay, very little. Okay, none. But, oddly enough, when I do 3D modeling, I prefer the anime characters over the regular ones.
