Skipping Breakfast Reduces Productivity

Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day yet many employees skip it because of many reasons. From diets, to timing constraints, many employees skip the most important meal which reduces productivity. Breakfast is a jump start to fire the engine and productivity rate can be reduced by up to 50% - 75% if one skips it.

In a time when dieting is frequent and time is always too short, many people are skipping breakfast because of their unhealthy lifestyle. There’s also the issue of money and getting a few more minutes of sleep by skipping breakfast which can devastate productivity during the morning.

skipping breakfast reduces productivity

It is actually pretty hard to enforce the workforce to have breakfast every morning unless you spend a little money. One way is to provide them the meal and have a little breakfast gathering in the office. Have healthy food on the table and have them sit down and take 5-10 minutes to eat something. This is also a great way to start the day by socializing with co-workers while eating breakfast.

Breakfast should not be skipped, especially if your employees are working early in the morning. The best way to accomplish this is by spending some money to provide them breakfast like bagels, fruits, sandwiches, muffins, tea, orange juice and coffee. Is not that expensive, and it shows that you care about them. If you care about them, they will care about you.

Breakfast is a great start to the day, even if it is pretty light.

Good stuff. My firm provides fruit and other breakfast items every morning but I’m too lazy to walk over to the kitchen from my cubicle. But yes, your blog motivates me to optimize my productivity. thanks!

Excellent point! I often find it interesting how people tend to never realize that ‘breakfast’, actually, literally means, “a-break-from-a-fast” - you’ve been fasting while you slept, and you need a break from it to last you until mid-day. Coffee can be healthy, but relying solely on that for your morning intake can to a lot of acidic dammage to your innards :P Take the time to fuel up.

Please consider that what you take for breakfast matters equally with taking it or not. Which means, do not eat empty calories like chips, bread etc. It is recommended that you eat a good mix of protein and carbohydrates to keep you on the go. Bread alone is not enough to skyrocket your energy level.

Breakfast is the my most important meal becuase I work out for an hour prior to coming to the office so I must always get a good intake of protein and it turns out that Salmon and Bagel w/ Goat cheese is one of my most favorite meals. I am more focused and productive when I have had breakfast of good quality.
