In most case scenarios, every action has a meaning and reasoning behind it. Following the moves of your enemy means you will always be one step behind; therefore, you need to “think several steps ahead” in order to succeed. In order to sharpen your mind strategically there are games that were used during ancient and medieval warfare that are still being used today. These games are very popular among all ages and provide excellent strategic thinking.
“Weiqi”, a board game which originated from China during ancient times, was used in warfare for strategist to develop tactics and moves necessary to take control over the battlefield. Wei means “besiege” while Qi means “board game” which made up the name “Weiqi”. Japan later adopted “Weiqi” as “Go or Igo” and Korea, “Baduk”. Each move in Weiqi will either have a positive or negative outcome so it forces you to think several steps behind every move. Weiqi is one of the many strategic board games that can help sharpen your mind through its simple rules yet complex strategy.
Chess, another strategy board game that requires thinking, strategy and prediction is a very popular game internationally that even military leaders use it to sharpen their minds strategically. The unique movement of each chess piece requires more attention, focus, and strategy. Chess, an unknown origin which many countries claim it as the maker, has enjoyed worldwide success and popularity than Weiqi. Some even measure chess as an indicator of your IQ.
These board games are applied to game theory “zero-sum” which both the military and business people use in their respective field. Zero sum means there is a winner and loser and the result is zero after adding the winnings (+10) and subtracting the losses (-10) = (0). There may be many other board games not listed but Weiqi and Chess are by far the most popular that will improve your mind strategically to be able to gain the upper edge whether if it is in business or war.
