The “I am busy” phrase has a devastating effect to the asker. It gives the impression that the listener’s time to listen is unimportant or wastes their time. It also is a phrase that makes one isolated from everyone since the person is too busy to afford some time out for others. It gives a selfish perception that leads everyone away from that particular person.
Rather than use the “I am busy” when you actually are, suggest to arrange a time to talk would had been the better solution. It shows sincerity that you truly want to give some time out at the moment but can’t which people could swallow more easily. Smooth your words to make it more palatable to digest. Words can easily offend others, making you more enemies than friends.
