How to Create Easy Brand Name

Creating a brand name can be quite hard as more and more names are already taken. The only way to avoid copyright infringement is to create a unique word from a preexisting one. Even so, you still have to check if that domain name is already taken so you can create a website as well to expand the brand. A unique and short name makes it easier for consumers to remember you.

Making up a brand name can be quite fast by using a known word; add or replace letters to it and you have yourself a unique brand name. The word Digg was created by just adding an extra “g” and Flickr was created by removing the “e“. By adding and removing letters from a meaningful word that correlates to your business, you can easily create a brand name for it.

Use words that correlate to your business and twist it around to make it unique. Although such a name can make your brand look less professional, a unique brand name is a great way to gain popularity (because it sounds fresh and interesting). If you don’t want people to second guess your brand name, it is best to use the traditional method of naming your brand to avoid confusion (using known words).

Creating a brand name can be pretty frustrating. You need to make sure the name hasn’t been taken yet and that the domain name is still there for the taking. So start having fun creating new and interesting words from preexisting ones to create a unique brand name for your business.

I’ve been thinking about this lately. Sometimes pet names work really good too. Me and my wife are always making up words for things. One domain we bought just as a play on words was fairysnails.com, which is going to be a quality toy (as in No lead paint, Not Made in China, leaning toward high end) blog. But there have been a few more. The names are there if you look or have a wife that likes playing with words as much as you do.

Wonderful indeed David. There’s a growing number of ‘misspelled’ brand names, and it’s a good way to address the issue of unavailable names.

Stephan- Just play around with words and names and you’ll make new brand names in no time =D. You and your wife are very creative!

    Zedd- Thanks, it sure does!

This is the easiest way to name your venture now but it may not be the best. You have to consider memorability. If your company doesn’t rely on links to drive it’s business, how can they expect people to remember misspellings?

You have to promote and market the business to make it become mainstream. Only then will people know your business and the brand name.
