Giving Gifts is your Doorway
Giving gift is a very important tradition in the business world as a way to build friendship, trust, and courtesy. It is a way to market yourself by being more recognizable and distinguished among others. But what I am about to tell you is that you must wait for the appropriate or opportune time to give your gifts out to avoid backlash. Now we don’t want you to give gifts to people every month or so.. you’ll be bankrupt!… and they will think you are bribing them which can be good or bad but why risk it?
When to Give
Giving gifts at important holidays is great like Christmas, New Year Eve, and Thanksgiving (a holiday of giving!). Don’t give them gifts at Valentine Day to avoid awkward moments unless he or she is your lover (only exception!). Never give a gift for someone’s anniversary (very special moment for the couple.. leave it to themselves). Definitely give a gift when someone succeeded a higher position (really important) as a courtesy and to congratulate them (they might help you out)!
Pricing.. .think before buying
Pricing is also another important element here. Look at your wallet, and see how much you have.. if you have little don’t go spending or using credit to buy extravagant gifts to impress someone (you might not survive that month!). Giving gifts is a consistent behavior so if you buy something expensive you will be stuck at that position forever or else they might think you’re cheap or they are not worthy.
What Kind of Gifts?
Ooo.. This one is hard, I’m not even sure because it depends on the individual who is receiving it. You don’t want to buy something that they won’t use right!? Is best that they will use it so they will always remember you every time they see it! Humans have a very short retention rate so it is best to have something they will always use to remind them of you. Best to do some research on the person you want to give gifts to and see what they like. Buy away!
