Every business should have a really good negotiator at their disposal. Good negotiators are hard to come by as they are the one who will save deals that are at the brink of collapsing. Scholars, debaters, and salesmen are one of the many who can become good negotiators due to their linguistic background. Such a specialized profession requires a sharp tongue and a flexible mind.
A good negotiator is one who believes in mutual benefits of both parties. This is where both sides win to ensure a cooperative joint operation. Win:Win negotiation tactics in the table discussion has a higher chance of success rate. If both sides walk out satisfy then the deal has been secured.

The use of psychology, emotion, words, and tone determines a good negotiator from a bad negotiator. Researching the other’s party history, members, background, alliances, enemies and facts must be done before the negotiation begins.

Well, I do not have a special Kevin Spacey like post of negotiator in our company but we do have negotiators. As I found out (hard way) not everybody can talk to everybody. We have some great people who can negotiate miracles, but some time we encounter so incompatible person on the other side of the table, that we need to choose different person from our side to do the talking. Some people simply do not match … Same with me, there some people I always have to get other people to deal with because I know the moment I get involved there will only be trouble
I see, thanks for the insight Biz! I guess compatibility can be an issue as well.
I have worked with supply chain management (purchasing & logistics) for a long time. Please contact me if you are interested in learning more about negotiation skills and experience from this field.
Cool! Is it free Martin!?
